WE ARE HIRING A PART-TIME VENUE CAPTAIN

Storytelling Toronto is hiring a short term, part time contractor as VENUE CAPTAIN to assist with the 2026 Toronto International Storytelling Festival and Storytelling Events. This contract has a maximum of 100 hours at $25.00 an hour ($2,500.00) from April 6, 2026 to May 10, 2026.

 

The Venue Captain will execute events primarily at the Palmerston Library Theatre and the First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto. Key tasks include coordinating volunteers to assist with Front of House duties, managing sound and lighting technical needs at the Palmerston Library Theatre and supporting performing artists.


The ideal candidate must have:

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Access to a vehicle

  • Event Planning experience

  • Volunteer Coordination experience

  • Familiarity with operating sound and lighting equipment

  • Love of Storytelling!


Responsibilities may include:

  • Recruit and train Volunteers to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to perform their roles successfully

  • Ensure Volunteers know their responsibilities, schedules and locations

  • Supervise all Front of House Tasks

  • With support from Theatre Liaison Officer manage all Sound and Lighting needs

  • Organize equipment and gather supplies 

  • Clean and clear the event space 

  • Resolve any issues that might arise during the event 

  • Escort performers around the site 

  • Manage the attendees: give directions, take registrations, assist with ticket sales

  • Run errands as needed and assist with other duties that arise


Role requires 100 hours of work:

  • 56 hours administrative (April 6-May10,2026)

  • 4 hours Event On-Site Work (April 25, 2026)

  • 40 hours Festival On-Site Work (May 7-10, 2026)
