The Storypillars Series are events that strengthen Storytelling Toronto’s covenant with the GTA storytelling community while generating excitement and awareness for the Toronto International Storytelling Festival.

Let us showcase your work!

We are seeking dynamic, engaging, and original programming that celebrates and amplifies the oral tradition of storytelling in its many forms.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome a wide range of event formats, including but not limited to:

  • Curated multi-performer storytelling shows

  • Solo storytelling performances

  • Workshops and educational programming

  • Lectures, panels, or discussions

  • Experimental or interdisciplinary storytelling formats

All submissions will be evaluated using the cirteria stated in the evaluation criteria document below.

Storytelling Toronto is committed to building an inclusive, accessible and diverse storytelling community by ensuring opportunities for Equity-seeking tellers. Equity-Seeking refers to an artist who self-identifies as traditionally underrepresented and under-resourced in performing arts and festival settings. For example, an equity seeking artist may identify as an Indigenous artist, artist of colour, transgender artist, artist with a disability or new Canadian artist.

What types of storytelling can be proposed? +

We are open to varying forms and genres of storytelling, including but not limited to:

  • Traditional
  • Personal True Tale / Memoir
  • Folk Tales
  • Historical
  • Original Fiction
  • Comedy Storytelling
  • Spoken Word
  • Children/Family Storytelling
How long can my proposed event be? +

Applicants can submit:

  • 20–30 minute event
  • 45–60 minute event
  • 80–90 minute event

Applicants are welcome to submit multiple submissions.

Depending on submissions, shorter shows may be paired with longer shows as a single ticketed event.

If your work centers storytelling in a compelling way, we want to hear from you.

Who Should Apply? +

This call is open to storytellers, producers, educators, and artists based in or connected to the Greater Toronto Area.

What is Storytelling Toronto Offering? +

Selected applicants will receive support from Storytelling Toronto, including:

  • A performance venue
  • Artist Compensation
  • Marketing Support
  • Front of House Support
  • Box Office Management
  • Box Office Revenue Sharing

Selected applicants are paid a flat fee plus 20% Box Office Profit Share (Gross).

Artist Fees:

  • 20–30 minute show: $150
  • 45–60 minute show: $250
  • 80–90 minute show: $400

Ticket Prices:

  • General Admission: $20 advance
  • Member Admission: $17 advance
  • At the Door: $25

Palmerston Library Theatre

Venue Capacity: 120

Performance Dates:

  • September 26
  • October 24
  • November 21

Events will begin at 7:30 PM and must conclude no later than 9:30 PM.

Depending on the nature of submissions, shorter projects may be paired with longer projects on the same ticketed event.
